Turbocharger concerns – Q50 and Q60 3.0t

​

Q50 and Q60 models equipped with the VR30DDTT engine use two turbochargers to produce impressive performance from a 3.0-litre V6.

​

On certain vehicles, the turbochargers can develop wear or internal oil leakage.

​

INFINITI issued a U.S. warranty extension for certain 2016–2018 Q50 and 2017–2018 Q60 vehicles involving the possibility of premature turbocharger-bearing wear resulting in an internal oil leak.

​

Symptoms may include exhaust smoke, a check engine light or reduced engine performance.

​

VF Auto can perform the appropriate inspections and testing before determining that a turbocharger needs replacement.

CVT transmission concerns – JX35 and QX60

​

Certain JX35 and QX60 models equipped with a CVT can develop shuddering, shaking or bumps during acceleration.

​

INFINITI published a technical service bulletin for CVT judder on the 2013 JX35 and V6-powered 2014–2018 QX60 when diagnostic codes P17F0 or P17F1 are present.

​

A CVT is a major and expensive component, which makes accurate diagnosis especially important before replacing an entire transmission.

​

Direct Adaptive Steering – Q50

​

Certain Q50 models were equipped with Direct Adaptive Steering, an advanced steer-by-wire system that uses electronic components to control steering operation.

This is considerably different from a conventional steering system.

​

Certain 2014–2016 Q50 models equipped with Direct Adaptive Steering were also subject to a recall involving system operation under specific low-battery-voltage conditions during startup.

​

A steering warning, off-centre steering wheel or unusual steering behaviour requires proper diagnosis of the complete system rather than simply replacing mechanical steering parts.

VQ35 and VQ37 engines

​

The VQ35 and VQ37 V6 engines used in many G35, G37, EX, FX and other INFINITI models are well-established engines capable of delivering excellent service life when properly maintained.

As these vehicles accumulate age and mileage, however, oil leaks, sensor problems, misfires, cooling-system problems and other age-related concerns can occur.

Regular maintenance and addressing problems early can significantly extend the useful life of these engines.

Cooling-system and overheating concerns

Coolant loss should never be ignored, particularly on a turbocharged engine.
